Using Xillybus with Thunderbolt 3 adaptor

Postby Guest »

Hello,
I am planning to connect a KCU105 to a Windows laptop and I was wondering if anyone has tried using a Thunderbolt 3 to PCIe adaptor (like the ones used for external GPUs). I have used Xillybus before with the FPGA board inserted on the motherboard of a Linux desktop and I remember I had to often restart the desktop if I reprogram the FPGA. So I was also wondering if it would be the same with Thunderbolt or I can just unplug the cable to force a PCIe rescan.

Thanks,

I'm happy to report that a thunderbolt 3 expansion chassis from Sonnet works well with KCU105. I can also power up the host (Linux right now, but may move to Windows later), then program the FPGA and then "authorize" the thunderbolt 3 bus in /sys/bus/thunderbolt. This satisfies my hot-plugging requirement.
